Edward C. "Ted" McCormick
Principal AI Reliability & Quality Engineer
Principal reliability engineer who builds SRE disciplines from zero, hardens AI-enabled workflows, and creates deterministic testing and observability patterns for complex production systems in regulated environments. Brings a Naval officer's operational discipline, a fintech engineer's quality instincts, and an AI-native development workflow to reliability and modernization work that has to hold up in production.
Leadership Highlights
- Built the first dedicated SRE function for a high-volume fintech platform.
- Owned enterprise QA strategy, CI quality gates, and shift-left quality practice.
- Led security-sensitive incident response and post-incident systemic remediation.
- Use Claude Code, Copilot, and Codex CLI daily to accelerate analysis, testing, and delivery.
- Apply Naval operational discipline to production readiness, incident ownership, and quality leadership.
Professional Experience
Platform Engineer - Usio October '25 - Present
Founded and built the first dedicated SRE function for a high-volume payment processing environment, introducing incident practice, observability improvements, deterministic testing, and a formal modernization path for a legacy authorization stack.
- Established blameless post-mortem standards and a runbook library across six production incidents with explicit recovery, RCA, hotfix, and remediation targets.
- Built deterministic integration testing infrastructure for a legacy .NET payment authorization engine using Dockerized SQL Server, controllable external-auth mocks, and a Go-based SOAP/SQL test harness.
- Improved observability in a high-risk external authorization path by restructuring request-level logging and surfacing malformed upstream responses without adding latency to the critical path.
- Architected a strangler-pattern modernization strategy for a 15-year-old payment monolith with shadow traffic, broker-based flows, feature flags, idempotency improvements, and rollback-safe sequencing.
- Applied AI-assisted engineering to take a fragmented, two-year-stalled test harness effort to production-ready state over a single weekend.
DevOps Engineer - SouthWestern Business Corporation (SWBC) July '21 - October '25
Led reliability, quality, and deployment engineering for a mature serverless platform in a regulated financial services environment.
- Built CDK, TypeScript, and Python automation that removed manual deployment steps across 12+ services and supported zero-downtime blue-green releases.
- Owned QA strategy and quality gate enforcement, including code coverage standards and SonarQube/Mend integration in CI pipelines.
- Led the organization's migration from Azure DevOps to GitHub Actions, standardizing deployment patterns across the enterprise.
- Executed active intrusion containment during a critical vulnerability cycle and produced compliance-grade post-incident documentation.
- Mentored junior engineers and interns while leading retrospectives focused on systemic gap removal rather than superficial fixes.
CodeUp - San Antonio, TX November '20 - July '21
A fully immersive, project-based full-stack Java career accelerator. It formalized the transition into software delivery and provided the application-development vocabulary that now complements a much longer background in operational leadership.
Technical Focus
Military Experience: US Navy Lieutenant
Engineering and training leadership aboard USS Leyte Gulf and USS Mahan in high-accountability operational environments.
- Owned the ship's Training Figure of Merit like a service level indicator, improving readiness performance from 75% to 96% through gap analysis and corrective action.
- Eliminated training and scheduling toil across a 200-person organization by creating ownership, intake, and capacity management where none existed.
- Completed four major readiness assessments that certified the ship as deployment-ready and later helped train peer ships through qualification cycles.
